Ouro Preto, Black Gold!

Sunday 10 May 2020

Ouro Preto, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil

How Many Days? 2
Food - How Much? 6 euros/meal
Hotel - How Much? 45 euros for a great one!
Overall Experience was... UNFORGETTABLE!

This is a place for anyone who wants to dive to Brazilian history! Ouro Preto (Black Gold) is a colonial town in the Serra do Espinhaço mountains of eastern Brazil. It was the focal point rush and Brazil's golden age in the 18th century. With the exhaustion of the gold mines in the 19th century, the city’s influence declined but many churches, bridges and fountains remain as a testimony to its past prosperity and the exceptional talent of the Baroque sculptor Aleijadinho. Central Tiradentes Square is named after the martyr for Brazilian independence. There are numerous churches and chapels all over town, including the 18th-century St. Francis of Assisi Church.

What I think about the food? How Much?

hahaha they have just my favorite kind of food! YESSS, MINAS GERAIS Cuisine is the best in my opinion! Well, I am from there... so you can expect that, but I know many people who are not
from there and would share the same opinion!

HOW MUCH?
I paid around 17 euros (90 reais) for a very nice dinner for both of us (including a glass of wine for myself), what is pretty good!

RESTAURANTS:
  1. Tropea Cantina, Italian Restaurant, if you have the choice, pick the Sperimentare Night, it is 10 euros (60 reais) for 4 small meals + dessert.
  2. Casa do Ouvidor, where you can find the best typical dishes from Minas Gerais, it's very posh to be honest, but had an amazing value, we ordered a dish for two and it was only 12 euros (65 reais).

Why Ouro Preto?

And you guys may be questioning, why Ouro Preto? Well, it was my Mom's dream! It was priceless to be able to come back to Brazil to visit my Mom and afford her dream... I mean... Since I was a little kid I hear "I'll save some money and go to Ouro Preto, walk around and enjoy myself"...
Well, your wish is my pleasure, Mom!
The BEST TIP today is: If you have the opportunity to bring your Mom to her dream trip, DO IT! It will worth every cent! We had a wonderful moment! And of course, if you still have your father around, bring him too, unfortunately I lost my Daddy when I was 14 yo, but he is was there with us... in our minds!

   Where stay in Ouro Preto?

Honestly, everything about this trip was just so perfect and the Boutique Hotel that we stayed, called Solar da Opera, followed the same path! I completely love it, very well located, our little balcony... perfect place for my morning meditations!
My Mom was literally living her dream!
The breakfast.... ahhh my GOSH! We had a plenty of options and the best part was... everything was from Minas Gerais, cheese bread, many types of cake, amazing coffee...! So it made we go deeper into this experience! Also the stay includes a coffee break around 4pm every day! I've never seen my Mom eating so much in my entire life hahahaha.
For those who would like to know more about them, here is the website: http://www.pousadasolardaopera.com.br/
It will be max 50 euros/night for the best room! Just Amazing!

As the plan was spending 2 days in Ouro Preto, we decided to stop a couple of hours in "Mariana" (yeah, I know, I couldn’t skip this one) on the way back, it is 30 min away from Ouro Preto. It is basically the same architecture, but as  my Mom and myself love this style we decided to stop for lunch before heading home.

As She was the reason why I came to visit Ouro Preto, my last pic has to be with her! For sure this trip was one of the greatest moment that I have ever had with my Mom!
