Mapas is one of the finest Dalkey Restaurants, where I had the pleasure to have a couple of dinners while staying at Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel. The Castle was originally “Mount Mapas”, built by Colonel Mapas in 1740.

Mapas Restaurant is led by the Executive Chef Sean Dempsey, bringing a menu prepared with the very best of Irish, locally sourced seasonal produce.

“We source only Irish produce and local where possible. We are proud to work with the best quality suppliers for our food and produce; FX Buckley for our meats and Wrights of Marino for our sea-food.”

Sean Dempsey, Executive Head Chef

As soon as we arrived at the restaurant, we received a lovely warm welcome from the staff, including the Chef that sent us this delicious soup of the day, that we could enjoy while we were having some water and choosing our drinks and meals.

I have to say already, this Grilled Goats Cheese was the star of the show for me, as I am a cheese lover, when I saw the dish on the MENU, I could not hold myself, I had to try and see how it tastes, and SURPRISE, it was even better than I thought. This starter is served with beetroot puree, honey glazed figs, mixed leaves, candied pecans and balsamic glaze. The perfect mix of flavour!

The one on the top was also delish, Toonsbridge Burrata, served with toasted breads, minted heirloom tomatoes and orange gel.

Before talking about the main, I have to say that the waiter was very attentive and we were not waiting long for our food, perfect timing, well done guys!

So, for our first night, we chose Chargrilled 8oz Fillet of Irish Beef, served with jus, dressed watercress, fondant potato, Roscoff onion and Portobello mushroom. The waiter was very helpful and brought for us to try a mix of different sauces, including green peppercorn, red wine jus, bearnaise or garlic butter! Red wine jus was my fav!

I ordered mine Medium-Well and I have to say that the Chef knows the art of cooking steak, the level of doneness was perfect for me.

On the second dinner, we both went for the Grilled Goats Cheese (yeah, we really fell in love with it) and for main we tried something new. On the left (top on the phone) we have Wrights Organic Salmon, served with a warm salad of grilled asparagus, new potatoes and chive beurre blanc. On the right (bottom), Wicklow Pork Belly, served with black pudding bon bons, tender stem broccoli, smoked cheddar mash and apple puree. I have not had a pork belly so full of flavor like that for so long! Very juicy, exactly the way I like it.
